I’ve designed a whole lot of websites in my career. In fact, most of my career was devoted to designing, building, testing and supporting marketing-focused websites for clients at a company I co-own called Bright Bridge Studios. I’m not sure exactly how many I’ve worked on but it’s probably close to three or four hundred. They have spanned practically every industry and every size company. It’s given me a sense for how to adapt to any client or task, plus a knack for coming up with working solutions on the fly.
The Bright Bridge Studios team built our own CMS and used it as the basis for many projects. We called it simply “The Bright Bridge Codebase.” It simplified the content management interface for clients , was relatively secure and was very versatile. It also afforded me the chance to get my hands dirty in a variety of ways. I could customize the design to any degree, while providing some latitude if clients wanted to configure aspects of the look and feel themselves. It also provided me with a chance to learn how to build a UI, test it with my clients and iterate features for fine-tuning. It also gave me the opportunity to help clients learn how it works. I created a series of screencasts that were customized for each client for that purpose.
More recently, I’ve primarily moved to using WordPress. The examples below, listed in no particular order, are a mix of sites built using WordPress (the first six examples below) andThe Bright Bridge Codebase (everything else). Many websites in the latter group were collaborative efforts with developer Jon Roth, senior programmer Kham Inthammavong and SEO expert Chris Girard,
